A CIP Spotlight Story
This achievement award is going to someone who exemplifies hard work, team works and remarkable personal growth. When this person first joined CIP he was reserved, only spoke a few words and wanted to keep to himself. He was not interested in social interactions and often wanted to be left alone. This person is very strong willed and wanted to do things when he wanted and how he wanted which made it hard for staff to connect with him at first, but we never gave up and neither did he. Over time we witnessed an incredible transformation now this person communicates with both staff and peers he asks where his staff is when she鈥檚 running late and he鈥檚 excited to know what鈥檚 for lunch on fun Fridays and he warmly greets and says goodbye to his friends. For those of you who know this person you know how big of a milestone this is for him, we could not be any prouder. This person is not only a dedicated worker who doesn鈥檛 stop until the job is perfectly done but he is also a true team player who is always ready to lend a hand. It has been an honor to support David in this journey and we are privileged to witness his continued growth with this success. I am proud to present this achievement award to David Tista!

What are our participants saying?
鈥淭he Humane Society is my favorite volunteer site. I like working with the bunnies and helping them do exercise.鈥
鈥 Teresa, CIP Participant
鈥淚 never had confidence in my whole life, and 海角社区 gave me that confidence. It鈥檚 been the best gift anyone has ever given me. Now when I face something difficult or something that鈥檚 hard, I have the confidence to keep persevering, and I don鈥檛 give up.鈥
鈥 Danny, CIP Participant
鈥淐IP increased my confidence and helped give me a better life. The staff are my support; they help me when I need them.鈥

Meet Your Administrator
The participants are the primary reason Perla Moran is so passionate about working at CIP and why she has stayed at 海角社区 for over a decade. 鈥淚t鈥檚 incredibly rewarding to witness their growth, both in their work and social skills, and to see them develop as individuals,鈥 she says. A Cal State Northridge graduate with a BA in Psychology, Perla is person-center trained and bilingual (Spanish). She has worked as a direct support professional for adults and elderly people, behavioral interventionalist in both home and school settings, and job coach. Once at 海角社区, she started as a Skills Instructor and advanced to becoming CIP Program Supervisor.
Perla鈥檚 expert planning and communication skills ensure CIP runs smoothly, earning positive feedback from families. She excels in problem-solving and critical thinking, always prepared with a backup plan for unexpected challenges. A collaborative team player, Perla values the CIP staff and actively seeks their input during events. She knows that staff often offer creative solutions that enhance the program; involving them in decision-making helps foster a sense of connection and inclusivity. With the belief that emotional intelligence and leadership go hand in hand, Perla鈥檚 ability to empathize allows staff and participants to feel a strong sense of belonging.
鈥淚 truly enjoy how fun the program is!鈥 says Perla. 鈥淐IP fosters an environment where having a good time is an integral part of the experience for participants and staff.鈥
